A lecture by a member of the Grammy-winning band Lost Bayou Ramblers. Hosted by Tom Turino, Professor Emeritus of Ethnomusicology, University of Illinois at Champaign Urbana.
Join Grammy-winning artist Louis Michot to learn about the evolution of Cajun Music in America. We will listen to some of the first recordings from the 1920s, follow how country and western influenced Cajun music during the 1940s, and learn how Cajun music traveled beyond Louisiana to find new audiences at the Newport Folk Festival and a new flourishing since the 1960s.
This event is made possible through a traditional artist touring grant from South Arts with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
