The Cult Classics Club has selected the 1955 book/movie The Night of the Hunter.
Based on the true story of a serial murder in West Virginia, The Night of the Hunter tells the story of Harry Powell, an ex-convict who misrepresents himself as a prison chaplain and marries his dead cellmate's widow.
The novel by Davis Grubb was a finalist for the 1955 National Book Award.
The film stars Robert Mitchum, Shelley Winters, and Lillian Gish, and is considered one of the greatest films ever made.
