BreakBeatCode teaches students and future leaders to code, collaborate and create, by bringing together professionals in the music and tech industries, including rappers, producers, singers & more.
A BreakBeatCode Hackathons is a half-day virtual event co-hosted by the BreakBeatCode team, the Lexington Public Library, and other partnering organizations. During the Hackathon, volunteer coaches will provide an introduction to the BreakBeatCode curriculum. No prior coding knowledge or experience is required. By the end of the hackathon, students will have started to build a foundation in coding skills and music production, and they will have published their first music tracks. At the end of the event, we will have a closing party where Supernatural will perform live on stage, and DJ Siege will remix the music the students have created in a live set. 13 and up.
BreakBeatCode works with organizations that support historically underserved communities to offer the free BreakBeatCode curriculum, teacher training and virtual hackathons. The program is supported by volunteers from Google and the broader tech and music industries. The project so far, has reached more than 10k learners in 20 countries.
