Lexington’s Kentucky Association racetrack operated from 1828 through 1933. During its heyday, it witnessed the skills of many African American horsemen, four of whom have been inducted into the National Museum of Racing’s Hall of Fame.
Becky Ryder serves as Director Emerita of the Keeneland Library, where she has overseen extensive research pertaining to Thoroughbred horses. She co-founded Phoenix Rising Lexington to raise awareness about the significant contributions of African Americans in Kentucky’s signature equine industry.
