A captivating true story of one of the darkest chapters in Kentucky history.
For August, the Blue Grass True Crime Club will be reading The Ashland Tragedy: Murder, a Mob & a Militia in Kentucky by Joe Castle & J.M. Hunt.
On Christmas Eve 1881, a horrible crime shook the small town of Ashland, Kentucky, and captivated the entire nation. Three children were brutally murdered and their house set ablaze. Three men were convicted of the crimes, and two were sentenced to death.
But the murderers were being protected by the governor's untrained militia, which would eventually turn their guns on Ashland's citizens.
Find out why the governor of Kentucky threatened to kill every man, woman, and child in Boyd County!
Registration required. Books available at the Central Library 1st floor circulation desk! Club meets in the Kentucky Room, Wednesday, August 28th at 6pm.
