In 1865 England, a young woman named Katherine (Florence Pugh) is trapped in a loveless arranged marriage to a much older man (Paul Hilton), and begins a passionate affair with one of the servants on her estate (Cosmo Jarvis). When her husband and father-in-law (Christopher Fairbank) discover their tryst, the lovers resort to deception and murder in order to save their relationship.
